A Paris Farewell

As much as I’ve always loved Paris, I never expected to move there. And once I moved there, I never expected to stay for two years. And there were many things along the way I never expected—the pure bliss, the utter frustration, depression, celibacy, eating rabbit, going to Uganda, this blog…

Needless to say, I’m so grateful that it all happened. Moving to Paris changed my life. And to have had the opportunity to share my love for the City of Light and Dark Chocolate in the New York Times is another thing I never expected—especially since it started as a basic reportage piece.

So thank you everyone for reading the piece and to everyone who has sent a message. Your words mean more to me than you'll ever know. Thank you, thank you! Merci, merci! Here’s to loving Paris…

  5. I just came back from Paris on Wednesday. Your lede read like my experiences with Paris, and the whole story made me want to get back on the next plane to Roissy. I'm always happy to read that someone loves Paris just as much as I do.

    Your article was...amazing.

Sidenote: I actually took that exact same picture a week ago.

  8. I really loved your piece--though it made me agonize over how much I miss that city. Because of your article, I googled your name, found this blog, and now intend on keeping an eye on your travels and writing, as you essentially have my dream job. If you have any advice for an aspiring travel/food writer, I welcome it! I hope my dreams can come true too.

  12. The writing in the article is a great mix of an insider's point of view along with someone who obviously hasn't lost their sense of wonder for the city. And Chapeau for plugging bike riding as an integral part of your Paris experience.

P.S. How does one write for the NYT?

  13. Great article. I'm taking my whole family in June, and I can't wait. Might give L'Atelier de Joel Robuchon another try at the new Champs location. Went several years ago during opening week of the St. Germain branch and it was a mess.

  18. BRAVO Amy!!!
Wish I had read this whilst still in Paris for last minute must-dos.
I did pass through The Publicis Drug Store early Sunday morning and noticed Robuchon's name but I don't think they do petit dejeuner.
    What extraordinary experience you had!!
    Bravisimo!
